John Klein was born in Binghamton, New York. His interest in the defense industry was nurtured while attending Norwich University. He
joined the United Sates Army in 1966 and served as Project Test Officer, Armor and Engineer Board TECOM, Fort Knox, Kentucky. John
holds a BS Math Major/Minor Physics degree. During his years at Mauser and Royal Ordnance he further strengthened his design and entrepreneurial skills and eventually founded Sage in 1973. During the early 1980s Sage became the United States distributor for British made ARWEN less-lethal launchers and less-lethal munitions. After successfully introducing these to the North American market, a need for locally manufactured less-lethal munitions was identified and Sage subsequently became involved in the manufacturing and distributing thereof. In 1999 the United States Navy Seals/Naval Surface Warfare, Crane Division, approached John for assistance in modernizing the M14 rifle, which was superbly suited for long range target engagement in the Arctic. As part of the Arctic rifle program the M14, although very capable, was not suited in its then current configuration to be easily deployed in confined spaces. Through a combined effort of Crane and Sage, the M14 EBR was born. As the current President of the company John still oversees the daily operations of both Sage International, Ltd. and Sage Control Ordnance, Inc. His experience and guidance has helped Sage continuously improve and expand its product range to meet the changing demands of its customers. Under his leadership Sage has grown into one of the most trusted and dependable manufacturers in the industry today. |
